Lindsay Belle Russell

That's what we have decided to name our little girl, after one of my best and dearest friends, Lindsay Rebekah Haun, who passed away last Monday from brain cancer.  It's been a really hard and emotional time, but I am so overjoyed that she is in the Lord's perfect dwelling place right now. Heaven just keeps becoming more and more real to me. And now that she is there, right now, makes it even more amazing.

Lindsay's faith and friendship will always be remembered. I still have all the cards she sent me over the years where she would encourage my soul, remind me that I was in her daily prayers, and would always write "I miss my little ray of sunshine."

What a blessing Lindsay has been to me and so many others, and what an honor for me to name my daughter after such an amazing woman of God.  I'll miss my little ray of sunshine too. We'll meet again soon, in a better land.

oh my gosh!!!

Yep, that was our reaction about 5 weeks ago when we found out we were pregnant. So glad the first trimester is over. Let's see if the next couple of months really are the "glory" months. Oh, and for any moms out there with good positive stories of your birthing experience, please share, cuz I'm STILL spooked by the birthing video I had to watch in my 7th grade science class. Thanks

summer and life lessons

As a kid, I remember feeling the transition from spring to summer so vividly, but now, it seems like the blast of summer heat creeps up on us so quickly, that when we wake up thinking it will be another refreshing spring day, it's not. The puppies are feeling it too. They got a haircut last week, but they still don't want to be outside for more than 5 minutes.  Such babies

So for a little update. . . Matt's 91 yr old great grandma (ggm) moved back to her hometown in WV a few weeks ago, and is now in a nursing home.  Her memory and reasoning abilities were getting pretty bad, and she was starting to think I was Matt's mom instead of his wife, and she also thought there were multiple Matthews living in the house.  It was really hard to see her decline so rapidly. We thought having a nurse come in everyday would be a great option, but she did not like that idea.  So she's back in a familiar place and is doing the best she can.  It was sad to see her go, but I'll be honest, not having the added stress has been a nice change for the both of us.

God really worked a number on me through this process.  I find that the need to prove myself right, or to have the last word is finally leaving me... praise Him.  I've also learned that I never really knew how to truly love someone. There has always been some kind of catch involved.  Do they like me?  Do I like them?  Are they nice?  Do I want to spend time with them?  Do they want to spend time with me?  Have they done anything for me?  Do we have fun together?  Definitely a case of the me me me syndrome.  God defines love for us:  It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful....love bears, believes, hopes, and endures ALL things.  Love never ends.  Man did I have it all wrong.  Many times when I was irritated with Matt's ggm, I felt like I couldn't bear and endure things she said or did.  After all, she's never done anything for me really, so why should I love her?  Right?  Wrong.  Big time.  Once again, God has reminded me that I must view myself as the worst sinner in the room...I MUST learn humility.  I'm a big piece of work I tell ya, but Praise God that He is always with me.  He is teaching, and I am learning...praise God for that too.

So while I was writing this, my friend Suzanne calls me and tells me she has found a last minute flight deal for an unbeatable price and wants to fly out tonight and spend the weekend with me.  How cool is that? AND 2 of my other friends (Meg & Sara Shoe) will be driving 6 hours next week to pick me up and drive another 6 hours back to WV so I can spend time with them and my family. This saves Matt a lot of time in driving, and it also means a fun road trip with the girls.  As most of you know, b/c of my vision problems, I can't drive on busy roads and interstates...so what a sweet blessing it is to have friends with such loving & willing hearts... to be there for me when I need it.

As CJ Mahaney and Dave Ramsey would say..."I'm doing better than I deserve."

Yuck

I read these off of Dr. Mercola's website, which he posted from health.com, and I just had to share...

12 Top Places You Risk Getting Infected

In some cases, you may encounter these places numerous times a day. In others, your exposure will be more sporadic. But either way, the following locations are some of the most germ-infested in the entire United States.

1. Your kitchen sink: With more dirt than a typical bathroom, and over 500,000 bacteria per square inch in the drain, your kitchen sink basin and faucet are teeming with germs.

2. Airplane bathrooms: Never mind the fecal bacteria that’s commonly found on door handles and faucets, the worst part is the tornado of germy particles that’s spewed into the air when you flush the toilet.

3. Wet laundry (even after it’s been washed): A dirty pair of underwear contains about a gram of ***, and this gets spread around the entire load of laundry very quickly. It’s not until you dry the clothes that the germs are destroyed.

4. Drinking fountains: All public drinking fountains are loaded with germs, but those in schools -- which contained anywhere from 62,000 to 2.7 million bacteria per square inch of the spigot -- were the worst.

5. Shopping cart handles: While you’re innocently shopping for groceries, your hands are grasping a handle covered in saliva, bacteria and fecal matter from dozens of people.

6. ATM buttons: Think about how often these buttons are touched everyday. Now think about how often they’re cleaned. This explains why one study found an average of over 1,200 bacteria on the average ATM key.

7. Your handbag: Women, your purse is likely overrun with thousands, and even millions, of bugs like salmonella, E. coli, staph bacteria and more. Makes you think twice about putting your handbag on the floor, and then plopping it down onto your kitchen counter, doesn’t it?

8. Playgrounds: Your typical children’s playground is covered in bodily fluids like blood, mucus, saliva and urine.

9. Mats and machines at health clubs: Yoga mat? Elliptical machine? Think bacteria factory. Such mats and cardio machines have been found to contain antibiotic-resistant staph bacteria and more.

10. Your bathtub: Bathtubs contain more than 100,000 bacteria per square inch, some of which you have just washed off your own body.

11. Your office phone: Phones get coated with germs from your mouth and hands, to the tune of over 25,000 germs per square inch.

12. Hotel-room remote control: This little remote has been used by hundreds of other people, and likely wasn’t thoroughly disinfected in between.
